He was a boy with a passion for collecting sneakers. His aspirations for the future, however, would go unfulfilled.
On the evening of June 5, 2018, in Glendale, Arizona, a suburb of Phoenix, Oscar was with a neighbor.
The two were reportedly 'messing around' with a handgun that belonged to the friend's mother and was not securely stored. During this interaction, the firearm discharged, and Oscar was struck. The single gunshot wound was devastating. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
For days, Oscar remained in a coma as doctors worked to save him. He had suffered significant brain trauma from the gunshot wound. His family held onto hope, but the damage was too severe. A few days later, on June 9, 2018, Oscar Torres Jr. succumbed to his injuries and passed away. The incident was deemed an accidental shooting. Because of the nature of the event, there was no information released regarding arrests or suspects in connection with his death. His promotion papers for high school reportedly arrived just hours after the tragic incident.
