In the evening hours of November 18, 2018, a young man's life was tragically cut short in Phoenix, Arizona. Alonzo G. Morales, a 19-year-old Hispanic male, was discovered with a gunshot wound at an apartment complex located near 4400 E. Baseline Road. Emergency services were called to the scene around 7:05 p.m., and Alonzo was quickly transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries later that same night.
At the time of his death, Alonzo, who was born in Phoenix on November 4, 1999, was a resident of Glendale.
The investigation into the shooting was swift, with authorities exploring the possibility that the incident was drug-related. In the early morning hours of November 19, 2018, investigators located and arrested three individuals in connection with the death of Alonzo Morales. The suspects were identified as 20-year-old Jonah Bascome, 18-year-old Ahmed Gutierrez, and 18-year-old Obed Gutierrez. All three were subsequently booked on serious charges, including first-degree murder and robbery.
Alonzo was remembered by his family as a loving and caring individual who would give the shirt off his back to help someone. He had recently graduated from high school and was looking forward to the future, with plans of getting his own place. He is survived by his parents, Bernice and Francisco, and his three siblings, Alex, Ethan, and Elly. A memorial service to honor his life was held on December 4, 2018, at West Resthaven Funeral Home in Glendale.
