In a tragic turn of events on the evening of April 28, 2019, Boyd Lynn, a 60-year-old man, was fatally shot in a motel room in west Phoenix. The incident unfolded around 6 p.m. near 19th Avenue and Van Buren Street, forever altering the lives of those involved.
Lynn was inside the motel room with a 52-year-old woman when a knock came at the door. When the woman opened it, a man identified as 54-year-old Ernest Lee Walker allegedly fired multiple gunshots into the room.
Lynn was struck multiple times and was rushed to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The woman with him also sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to her forearm.
Following the shooting, the assailant reportedly fled the scene on a bicycle. A witness at the motel later identified Walker from a photograph, leading to his arrest in the early hours of the following morning near 7th Avenue and Buckeye Road. At the time of his arrest, Walker acknowledged knowing the female victim but denied any role in the shooting.
Authorities booked Walker into jail on several charges, including first-degree murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a weapon by a prohibited person. It was revealed that he had been released from prison just eight weeks prior to the incident after serving a five-year sentence for drug-related charges and was on supervised release. A judge set his bond at $1,000,000.
