On the night of February 18, 2016, in Phoenix, Arizona, a burst of gunfire shattered the evening calm and tragically ended the life of 17-year-old Demetric Tremayne Carter, a Black male. The fatal encounter unfolded at approximately 11:00 p.m. in a parking lot located at 234 West Southern Avenue. Carter was seated in the front seat of a vehicle with two other young men when they were ambushed.
According to investigators, at least two male suspects approached the car on foot and opened
fire, striking all three occupants. In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, several people were seen fleeing the area as chaos descended upon the scene. Emergency services were called, and the three wounded individuals were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
While his two companions were severely injured in the attack, Demetric Tremayne Carter succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced deceased. The Phoenix Police Department launched a homicide investigation into the shooting. Authorities have stated that they are seeking at least two male suspects in connection with the incident. To date, no arrests have been publicly announced in the case, and the investigation remains ongoing. A reward of up to $2,000 has been offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment.
