In the early morning hours of September 14, 2018, a tragic event unfolded that would cut short the life of 26-year-old William Jones, a Black/African American male. The incident began in a parking lot adjacent to an apartment complex near 8100 N. 35th Avenue in Phoenix, Arizona. It was here that Jones had arranged to meet with 22-year-old Ashley Rios.
According to police, the meeting turned violent when Rios allegedly shot Jones.
Despite his injuries, Jones managed to make his way to a different apartment complex, located near 3200 W. Cactus Road. It was at this location that Phoenix police responded to a call about a shooting at approximately 5:17 a.m. Upon their arrival, they discovered Jones suffering from gunshot wounds. He was immediately transported to a local hospital, but tragically, he was pronounced dead.
Initially, investigators had no suspects in the shooting. However, a month-long investigation led detectives to identify Ashley Rios as the individual responsible for Jones's death. The investigation revealed that Rios had arranged the meeting with Jones, shot him upon his arrival, and then fled the scene.
Following the investigation, the Arizona WANTED Violent Offender Task Force located and arrested Ashley Rios in Tucson. She was subsequently booked into the Pima County Jail on a one-million-dollar bond, facing suspicion of killing William Jones.
