In the late hours of a Tuesday night in Phoenix, Arizona, the life of 31-year-old Jonte Hendrix was cut short in a violent encounter. On January 21, 2025, just after 10:00 p.m., police were called to an alley behind a home near 20th Avenue and Bethany Home Road following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered Hendrix on the ground, suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital by the fire department, but his injuries proved to be fatal.
As detectives began their investigation at the scene, two men emerged from a nearby residence and approached the officers, admitting their involvement in the shooting. The men were taken into custody for questioning. During the interviews, one of the men confessed to shooting Hendrix. He claimed that he acted in self-defense, stating that he feared for the safety of his relative after Hendrix allegedly threw a rock at him. The other man corroborated this account.
