In the early morning hours of March 8, 2013, a quiet home in Phoenix, Arizona, became the scene of a brutal and perplexing crime. Ulises Ocampo, a 46-year-old Hispanic male, and his son, Parish Ocampo, were tragically killed in what authorities have described as a home invasion. At approximately 2:30 a.m., two armed men forced their way into the Ocampo residence located near 16th Street and Van Buren.
The intruders went from room to room, seemingly searching for Ulises and Parish, before fatally shooting them. Other family members, including the mother and a younger brother, were present in the house at the time but managed to hide and were unharmed.
The assailants, described as two Black males, fled the scene without taking anything of value. One suspect was described as being 6'2' to 6'3' and weighing around 230 pounds, wearing a black bandana. The second suspect was described as possibly being a Black male, about 6 feet tall and weighing 200 pounds, with a ski mask. Despite demanding drugs upon entering the home, investigators have found no evidence to suggest that either Ulises or his son were involved in any criminal activity. This has led to the heartbreaking speculation that the Ocampos may have been the victims of a tragic case of mistaken identity, with the attackers possibly targeting the wrong house.
In the days leading up to the murders, two persons of interest were reportedly seen outside the residence in an older model blue Ford truck with an extended cab and a long bed. These individuals were described as Black males. One was estimated to be between 38 and 40 years old with a round face and a heavy-set build, while the other was described as being between 5'9' and 6'0' with a thin mustache and unshaven. Despite these leads and detailed descriptions of the suspects and persons of interest, no arrests have been made in the double homicide of Ulises and Parish Ocampo, leaving a family and community searching for answers and justice.
