On a Thursday night in June 2019, 15-year-old Sergio Reyes was at a park near 83rd Avenue and Encanto Boulevard in west Phoenix. He was seen entering a restroom with another young man. Shortly after, the sound of gunshots echoed through the park. Both young men exited the restroom, but Sergio had been shot. He was rushed to a local hospital, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries and died on June 20, 2019.
The young man who was with Sergio in the restroom fled the scene after the
shooting. Investigators have been looking for the unidentified male, but have only been able to provide a vague description to the public. As of now, the Phoenix Police Department is still seeking tips and information from the community to help identify the suspect responsible for Sergio's death. No arrests have been made in the case.
A subsequent investigation by the Department of Child Safety revealed that Sergio's mother had taken him to the park to be present for a drug transaction. Following Sergio's death, the department conducted a joint investigation with the Phoenix Police Department.
