In the afternoon brightness of Monday, December 7, 2020, a burst of violence shattered the calm near the Interstate 17 and McLellan Boulevard in Phoenix, Arizona. Seventeen-year-old Tylek McGee, a male, found himself in the path of gunfire. When police officers responded to reports of a shooting at approximately 1:30 p.m., they discovered the young man with a gunshot wound.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but his injuries proved to be too severe, and he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the teenager's death moved swiftly. Within a day, Phoenix police had a suspect in custody. Eighteen-year-old Zion McDonald was arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of Tylek McGee. The charges brought against McDonald were serious, including first-degree murder.
Further investigation revealed that the murder charge was not the only legal trouble McDonald was facing. He was also charged with aggravated assault, although authorities indicated that these charges stemmed from two separate incidents that occurred on November 30th and December 7th. Fortunately, no one was injured in either of those prior events.
