In the late afternoon of September 24, 2023, tragedy struck in Phoenix, Arizona, when 35-year-old Maurice Jamal Edwards was found in the roadway near 27th Avenue and Indian School Road suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency services transported him to a local hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal.
The incident prompted an investigation by Phoenix Police detectives who began to piece together the events that led to the shooting.
The assailant had fled the scene before law enforcement arrived. In the course of their investigation, authorities identified 67-year-old Bobby Roberts as the suspect in the homicide.
On October 2, 2023, Bobby Roberts was arrested in connection with the death of Maurice Edwards. He was subsequently booked on multiple charges, including murder and misconduct involving weapons, as he was a prohibited possessor at the time of the shooting.
