In the early hours of May 9, 2021, a gathering at the Hyatt Regency hotel in downtown Phoenix turned tragic, ending the life of 21-year-old Jaziah Shakor Causey. A dispute escalated among a group of individuals, leading to a fatal shooting. The incident, which occurred around 12:30 a.m., resulted in Causey being found deceased inside the hotel. In addition to the fatality, seven other people, six men and one woman, sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the chaos.

Police Department launched an investigation into the shooting. According to their reports, an argument broke out between several people who were attending a function at the hotel. This altercation quickly escalated, with multiple individuals firing weapons. The conflict began after two separate groups entered an elevator to attend a large birthday party on the seventh floor.
Following an investigation that included the review of surveillance footage, authorities identified two suspects in connection with the deadly shooting. Reymel Latre, 21, and Camron Anderson, 18, were subsequently arrested. Both men are facing multiple counts of aggravated assault. Witnesses reported that Anderson called out to another man in the elevator before the gunfire erupted. Latre was allegedly seen on video pulling out a gun and aiming it at another individual inside the elevator, after which others also drew firearms and began shooting. Anderson was later found at a local hospital where he was being treated for gunshot wounds sustained during the incident.
