In the early morning hours of January 16, 2020, the life of 21-year-old Luc Alan Amed Treadwell, a male, came to a violent end in a quiet residential neighborhood in Phoenix, Arizona. Responding to a call about a suspicious vehicle around 7:30 a.m., police discovered Treadwell deceased inside a grey Dodge Charger near 26th Street and Shea Boulevard. The car was riddled with between 20 and 30 bullet holes, a testament to the brutal nature of the attack.
Earlier that morning, around 5 a.m., residents had reported hearing what sounded like a string of firecrackers, which was later determined to be the barrage of gunfire that claimed Treadwell's life.
Investigations into the shooting painted a complex picture of the events that preceded the homicide. Witnesses reported seeing a dark-colored SUV chasing Treadwell's Dodge Charger before the shooting. It was later revealed that this chase spanned approximately 40 miles. The motive appeared to be retaliatory, as Treadwell had allegedly been involved in a kidnapping a few days prior and had taken the Dodge Charger. Text message conversations between Joby and his girlfriend reportedly discussed following the Dodge Charger on the morning of the murder. On April 15, 2020, authorities took Udith Karanath Joby into custody, and he was subsequently booked into jail on a charge of first-degree murder. During questioning, Joby denied any involvement in Treadwell's death and was unable to provide an alibi for the time the shooting occurred.
