Jimmie Montgomery, a 64-year-old male, was found deceased in his Phoenix home near 19th Avenue and Bethany Home Road on February 25, 2022, having sustained obvious signs of trauma. Family members grew concerned when they were unable to reach him for several days, which ultimately led to the discovery of his body. His niece, Aquila Dancer, recalled seeing him just two days before he was killed and noted that a young woman was present in his house at the time who gave off a 'bad vibe.'
Following the discovery, an investigation was launched, and suspicion fell upon Montgomery's 40-year-old girlfriend, Sally Macias. Montgomery's family played an active role in helping police locate her, with his sister successfully tracking her to a local hotel. On March 3, 2022, Phoenix Police arrested Macias in connection with Montgomery's murder.
According to court documents, Macias admitted to killing Montgomery. She claimed that during an argument, he had pulled her to the ground and then back up. She stated that she then went to the kitchen, retrieved a gun, and shot him in the chest. However, she also reportedly told police that she did not believe Montgomery would have killed or seriously harmed her. Neighbors had previously reported domestic violence incidents at the residence. When Macias was arrested, police also found methamphetamine, which she admitted to using multiple times a day. Sally Macias faced several charges, including second-degree murder and possession of a dangerous drug.
