In the winter of 2023 in Phoenix, Arizona, a violent act cut short the life of 15-year-old Isaac Perez Grado. On the afternoon of February 3rd, what should have been an ordinary day turned tragic near the intersection of 1st Avenue and Thomas Road. Isaac was in a vehicle with others when another car pulled alongside and unleashed a barrage of gunfire in a drive-by shooting.

The scene, which spanned nearly four city blocks, was chaotic, with multiple businesses struck by bullets. Isaac sustained critical injuries and was rushed to the hospital. A 10-year-old girl who was walking nearby with a family member was also wounded in the indiscriminate shooting. While the young girl was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, Isaac’s wounds proved to be fatal, and he succumbed to them a few days later on February 6, 2023.

The Phoenix Police Department launched a vigorous investigation into the senseless act of violence. Their efforts led to the identification and subsequent arrest of the individuals responsible. Authorities reported that the suspects were teenage males. Following their apprehension, they were referred to the Juvenile Correction Center on murder charges, bringing a swift, if somber, resolution to the search for those who ended a young life so abruptly.
