On the evening of May 13, 2020, 21-year-old Leroy Ignacio Iribe, a male of mixed race, was fatally shot in west Phoenix, Arizona. The incident took place around 6:30 p.m. near 71st Avenue and McDowell Road. According to police reports, Iribe had made arrangements to meet a woman to make a purchase.
The meeting was reportedly set up via Snapchat with 23-year-old Jaslynn Padres-Sesma for the purpose of buying illicit substances.
As Iribe approached a black, four-door passenger car where Padres-Sesma was in the driver's seat, two men exited the vehicle and opened fire. Iribe was struck by multiple gunshots and died at the scene. Investigators discovered shell casings of three different calibers, indicating that multiple firearms were used in the shooting.
The Phoenix police investigation led to the arrests of Padres-Sesma and 23-year-old Tivon Lyneil Stamps. A crucial piece of evidence was a 10mm bullet casing found at the scene that matched a casing from a shots-fired incident in January 2020, which helped authorities identify Stamps and his girlfriend, Padres-Sesma. At the time of their arrest, they were in possession of marijuana and bullet casings that matched those recovered from the scene of the shooting.
During questioning, Padres-Sesma told investigators that she drove Stamps and another man to meet with Iribe. She stated that all the men involved were armed with handguns and that they began firing at each other. Stamps claimed that he fired his weapon in self-defense after Iribe attempted to shoot him. Both Jaslynn Padres-Sesma and Tivon Lyneil Stamps were subsequently booked into jail on charges of first-degree murder.
