Jennifer A. Fells, a 36-year-old female, tragically lost her life on Sunday, July 18, 2021, in a violent shooting spree in Tucson, Arizona. The incident that claimed her life was part of a chaotic and horrific series of events that also resulted in the deaths of two other individuals and injuries to several more.
The violence began when a suspect, later identified as Leslie Scarlett, set a house on fire.
When the first responders, including firefighters and emergency medical personnel, arrived at the scene to extinguish the blaze and provide aid, Scarlett opened fire on them. An ambulance crew was among the first to be targeted, with multiple people being shot. The gunman's rampage continued, leading to a widespread and terrifying situation in the southside neighborhood.
During this mass shooting, Jennifer A. Fells was fatally wounded. Two other victims, 44-year-old Cory Michael Saunders and 20-year-old Jacob Michael Dindinger, also lost their lives in the attack. The gunman, Leslie Scarlett, had a criminal record and was reported to have been dealing with mental health issues. Following the shootings, Scarlett was confronted by law enforcement. The confrontation ended with Scarlett's death.
In the aftermath of the tragedy, the community mourned the loss of the victims. A GoFundMe campaign was organized to support Jennifer Fells's three children. Vigils were held to honor the memories of Fells, Saunders, and Dindinger, bringing together friends, family, and community members to grieve and remember the lives senselessly cut short.
