In the early hours of a Wednesday morning in Tucson, Arizona, the life of 18-year-old Emma Maria Destiny Dominguez was tragically cut short. On May 11, 2022, a shooting occurred that would leave one young woman dead and another injured. The incident unfolded west of North Stone Avenue on West Fort Lowell Road. Following the sound of gunshots, Emma and another woman drove a short distance before stopping near the intersection of East Prince Road and North Stone Avenue.
Around 5:45 a.m.,
police officers arrived at the scene to find the two women outside of their vehicle. Emma was unresponsive and suffering from gunshot trauma. Despite the immediate aid provided by the officers and medics from the Tucson Fire Department, her injuries proved to be fatal, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. The second woman with her sustained only minor physical injuries during the harrowing event.
The investigation into the shooting led Tucson police to identify a suspect who was known to the victims. Soon after the incident, 20-year-old Andres Machado was arrested in connection with the fatal shooting. He was subsequently booked into the Pima County Jail. Machado faced serious charges, including suspicion of second-degree murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and was held without bond.
