On the evening of August 5, 2021, a verbal confrontation inside a home on East Sundew Drive in Tucson, Arizona, escalated into a tragedy that claimed two lives. Jamarr Edward Jones, a 34-year-old Black / African American male, was fatally shot and died at the scene. Another victim, 13-year-old Avointae T. Sices, was critically injured and succumbed to his injuries shortly after being transported to a local hospital.
The incident began around 8:45 p.m.
when Tucson Police Department officers responded to a report of a shooting near Golf Links and Pantano. Upon arrival, they discovered both Jones and the teenage victim inside the residence with gunshot wounds. Despite immediate first aid rendered by the officers and subsequent efforts by Tucson Fire Medics, Jones could not be saved.
Investigators determined that the shooting stemmed from a domestic dispute involving 25-year-old Lorenzo Crowder and at least one of the residents of the home. During the argument, Crowder produced a firearm and shot both Jones and Sices. After the shooting, Crowder fled the location. In an unexpected turn of events, he returned to the scene while police were still conducting their investigation and was promptly arrested.
Crowder was subsequently charged with two counts of first-degree murder and was held on a $1 million bond. Originally from Tarboro, North Carolina, Jamarr Edward Jones was born on January 23, 1987. His death was mourned by his family and friends.
