In a desolate area near the Tucson International Airport, the body of 32-year-old Gabriel Olivas Orduno, a Hispanic male, was discovered by someone passing by on Friday, February 11, 2022. The Tucson Police Department, alongside the Tucson Airport Authority Police Department, responded to the scene located in a desert landscape just west of South Country Club Road and East Old Vail Road.
The initial investigation into the circumstances of Orduno's death quickly shifted into a homicide
case. It was determined that he had been a victim of gun violence. Authorities began an appeal to the public for any information that might shed light on the events leading to his death.
Less than a month later, on March 7, 2022, the Tucson Police Department announced that they had identified a suspect in the murder of Gabriel Olivas Orduno. A felony warrant for first-degree murder was issued for the arrest of 22-year-old Alfonso Ibanez-Encinas. Investigators with the U.S. Marshals-led Fugitive Task Force located Ibanez-Encinas at a residence on Tucson's south side, in the vicinity of West Valencia Road and South Sixth Avenue. He was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Pima County jail on the outstanding murder warrant.
