In the early morning hours of August 10, 2025, a fatal confrontation unfolded at the Hideout Bar in Tucson, Arizona, leaving 45-year-old Fred Sanchez dead from gunshot wounds. Responding to reports of a shooting at approximately 1:00 a.m., Tucson police officers discovered Sanchez unresponsive at the scene. He was immediately transported to a local hospital in life-threatening condition, but succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
The investigation into the shooting quickly
pointed to a confrontation that occurred just moments before the shots were fired. While detectives were processing the scene at the bar, another individual, a 23-year-old man, arrived at a different hospital with gunshot wounds. This man was believed to have been involved in the altercation with Sanchez. Authorities believe that several potential witnesses fled the bar before police could arrive and urged anyone with information to come forward.
Following witness interviews, the Tucson Police Department identified 23-year-old Benjamin Alberto Mendoza Jr. as the suspect in the murder of Fred Sanchez. An arrest warrant was issued for Mendoza for second-degree murder. On September 5, 2025, Mendoza turned himself in to the authorities. He was subsequently booked into the Pima County Jail.
