On a summer afternoon in Tucson, Arizona, a dispute on the road escalated into a fatal encounter for Martin John Bloom. The 56-year-old White male was shot and killed in what authorities have described as a road rage incident on June 20, 2024. The confrontation occurred at the intersection of West Ajo Highway and South Kinney Road on the city's west side.
Pima County Sheriff's deputies responded to reports of a shooting around 4:20 p.m. and discovered Martin Bloom with a gunshot wound.
He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. Witnesses at the scene reported that the altercation began after a minor traffic collision, where the suspect's vehicle struck the rear of Bloom's vehicle. It is believed that Bloom was standing beside the suspect's vehicle during a brief altercation when a single shot was fired, striking him.
The alleged shooter, identified as 77-year-old Robert Ryan, had fled the scene before law enforcement arrived. However, thanks to witness accounts, including a description of his vehicle and license plate, deputies were able to locate him a short time later. Ryan was subsequently arrested and booked into jail on a charge of second-degree murder. His bond was set at $500,000. The investigation into the deadly encounter is ongoing, though authorities have stated there are no other outstanding suspects.
