In the warm summer night of July 6, 2025, the vibrant life of 15-year-old Daydrian Raymond Brown was tragically cut short in Tucson, Arizona. A talented and passionate soccer player known to his loved ones as 'DayRay,' Brown was shot and killed near a house party. The incident unfolded around midnight in the 5300 block of E. 26th Street, where police responded to reports of multiple gunshots. Upon arrival, they found the young male lying in the road with gunshot wounds.
Despite immediate aid from officers and the Tucson Fire Department, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses reported that a house party was taking place nearby, and a group from the party had moved into the street. An argument then broke out between Brown and a suspect, escalating to the point where the suspect fired a gun, fatally wounding the teenager before fleeing the scene. Friends and family were left heartbroken, remembering a young man with a magnetic personality and a promising future in soccer, a sport he had played since he was five. In the wake of his death, the community came together for a candlelight vigil at Cienega High School to honor his memory.
The investigation into Daydrian's death led to the arrests of three individuals. Two months after the shooting, Tucson police arrested 20-year-old Katraun Devon McLendon, who was subsequently charged with first-degree murder. Shortly after, a second suspect, 16-year-old Izrael Micah Lee Hanlon Salazar, was apprehended in Scottsdale and also faced a first-degree murder charge. Authorities indicated that neither McLendon nor Salazar had been invited to the party and had confronted Brown before the shooting.
A third suspect, identified as 20-year-old Jocelyn Hernandez, was also arrested in connection with the shooting. Investigators believe she may have driven the getaway car. All three suspects have appeared in court, with both McLendon and Salazar being held on a one-million-dollar bond. The case is set to move through the justice system, with the family of Daydrian Brown hoping for justice for their beloved son.
