In the late afternoon of November 18, 2022, a violent altercation shattered the peace at Rudy Garcia Park in Tucson, Arizona, ending the life of 20-year-old Jorge Santini Baragan. The Tucson Police Department received reports of a shooting at approximately 4 p.m. and arrived to find a chaotic scene. Officers discovered Jorge with severe gunshot wounds.
Despite their immediate efforts to perform life-saving measures, his injuries were too grave, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident that claimed Jorge's life was not an isolated act of violence but part of a larger conflict that resulted in multiple casualties. In the aftermath of the shooting, it was discovered that two other individuals had also been shot. A juvenile, Haron Mendivil Arballo, and a 22-year-old man, Roman Salazar-Solis, had left the park after being wounded. They were later located at Banner University Medical Center's South Campus seeking treatment for their gunshot injuries. Tragically, Haron Mendivil Arballo also succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The Tucson Police Department's investigation into the double homicide led them to identify Luis Mario Tello-Fierros, a juvenile, as being involved in the deadly shooting. On December 1, 2022, authorities located and arrested Tello-Fierros. Following the investigation, both Roman Salazar-Solis, who was injured in the event, and Luis Mario Tello-Fierros were charged with two counts of First Degree Murder for the deaths of Jorge Santini Baragan and Haron Mendivil Arballo. Both suspects were subsequently booked into the Pima County Jail, each held on a one-million-dollar bond.
