In the early morning hours of July 5, 2022, the body of 37-year-old Janet Begaye, a Navajo woman and mother of four, was discovered in a canal in Phoenix, Arizona, near 32nd Street and McDowell Road. An investigation launched by the Phoenix Police Department determined that she had sustained a fatal gunshot wound, and her death was ruled a homicide.
