In the spring of 2014, 33-year-old Angelina Collier, a Black female residing in Phoenix, Arizona, was taking steps to reshape her life. She had recently filed for divorce from her husband, Robert Collier, and was in the process of applying to law school, all while working at a law firm and raising her three children. Friends of Angelina conveyed that she had expressed fears for her and her children's safety in the time leading up to her tragic death.
On the night of April 13, 2014, the
situation escalated tragically. Authorities in Phoenix received a 911 call around 11:30 p.m. from a man who confessed to killing his wife. When police arrived at Angelina's apartment, they discovered her fatally shot. Her three children, aged one, three, and twelve, were also in the apartment but were found asleep and physically unharmed.
The investigation quickly identified Angelina's husband, 32-year-old Robert Collier, as the suspect in her murder. After killing Angelina, he reportedly sent pictures of her body to her family and friends. Law enforcement later found Robert approximately 10 miles away from the apartment, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Prior to the murder-suicide, Robert had apparently been undergoing treatment for suicidal tendencies. The three children were placed in the custody of Arizona Child Protective Services.
