An 18-year-old Hispanic woman named Norma Luna, from Las Vegas, was killed in a drive-by shooting in a northern Phoenix neighborhood on the night of October 21, 2017. Luna was a passenger in a vehicle with two or three other individuals when another vehicle pulled up alongside them. The driver of the second vehicle fired multiple shots into the car Luna was in.
Luna, who was sitting in the backseat, was the only person struck by the gunfire.
She was transported to a local hospital in extremely critical condition and succumbed to her injuries on Monday, October 23, 2017. The motive for the shooting was not immediately clear to investigators.
Following the incident, Phoenix police arrested a 17-year-old male suspect in connection with the shooting. During the arrest, authorities found two firearms. The teenage suspect faced charges of first-degree murder, three counts of aggravated assault, and a charge of a drive-by shooting.
