On October 4, 2023, a shooting incident occurred on the northeast side of Indianapolis, resulting in the death of 19-year-old Fredrick Jamar Johnson III. The incident took place around 9 p.m. in the 5800 block of East 40th Street, just west of North Arlington Avenue. Officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) responded to a report of a person shot and found two victims with gunshot wounds: Fredrick Jamar Johnson III and a young male.
