On August 15, 2023, at approximately 12:38 a.m., 18-year-old Brittany Gutierrez-Bugarin of Phoenix was fatally shot in a road rage incident on Interstate 10 in the West Valley. She was a passenger in a vehicle driven by her boyfriend, who was taking her home after they had dinner at a friend's house. The incident occurred near the 83rd Avenue off-ramp, where the vehicle Gutierrez-Bugarin was in was involved in a road rage altercation with another vehicle traveling westbound on I-10.
