In the small town of Thatcher, Arizona, a domestic disturbance call in the early morning hours of December 13, 2022, tragically ended in the discovery of a homicide. Patty Sue Nosie, a 42-year-old housekeeper and mother, was found deceased in her residence at Quail Ridge. Authorities were initially dispatched to the home after a man, later identified as 64-year-old Bobby Benitez, called Graham County Dispatch admitting to having just killed someone and requesting that the police come and kill
him. This call initiated a tense standoff between Benitez and law enforcement officers.
Upon their arrival, officers engaged with Benitez, who was living with Nosie at the time. During a second conversation with the police, Benitez pulled out a handgun, pointed it at his own chest, and shot himself, reportedly saying, 'It's over.' His self-inflicted wound was not fatal, and he was taken into custody before being transported to Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center for treatment. It was only after Benitez was secured that officers were able to enter the residence and make the grim discovery of Nosie's body. An subsequent investigation by the Thatcher Police Department revealed that she had suffered multiple gunshot wounds to her wrist, chest, and back, and also appeared to have a broken jaw.
Following the incident, Bobby Benitez was charged with the murder of Patty Sue Nosie. While recovering in the hospital under custody, Benitez allegedly confessed to a doctor that he had shot Nosie because 'she was driving him crazy.' However, when an investigator attempted to formally question him after reading him his Miranda rights, Benitez invoked his right to remain silent and requested an attorney. After his release from the hospital, he was to be booked into the Graham County Adult Detention Facility. Patty Nosie was remembered by her family as a loving mother to her five children and a cherished sister.
