In the evening hours of January 18, 2023, a meeting in a vehicle in a residential neighborhood east of 83rd Avenue and Indian School Road in Phoenix, Arizona, took a fatal turn, ending the life of 18-year-old Aaron Joseph Hernandez. Hernandez, a Hispanic/Latino male, was with other men in a car to meet with another individual. That man, later identified as 19-year-old Robert Alexis Hernandez, entered the backseat of the vehicle.
During the interaction that followed, multiple gunshots
rang out inside the car. Aaron Joseph Hernandez was struck by the gunfire and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Another passenger in the vehicle was also wounded in the shooting but survived with non-life-threatening injuries. A third man, also suffering from non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, was later dropped off at a local hospital.
The suspect, Robert Alexis Hernandez, was also injured by gunfire during the incident. He fled the area and was picked up in the neighborhood by an unknown person who then drove him to a local hospital for treatment. Phoenix police detectives launched an investigation, conducting extensive interviews and analyzing evidence collected from the scene. Their investigation led them to identify Robert Alexis Hernandez as the suspect in the deadly shooting.
