On a warm Easter Sunday in 2018, a festive gathering at a Phoenix park turned into a scene of tragedy. Timothy McGhee, a 46-year-old male, was fatally shot on April 1st at Eastlake Park. The park was filled with approximately 200 people enjoying the holiday when the sound of gunfire shattered the peaceful atmosphere.
In the ensuing chaos, it was discovered that three individuals had been struck by bullets.
McGhee was critically wounded and, despite medical efforts, succumbed to his injuries. A 42-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman also sustained gunshot wounds, though their injuries were not considered to be life-threatening.
Phoenix police responded to the incident near 16th Street and Van Buren streets. In the immediate aftermath, there was confusion as an initial statement mentioned an arrest had been made. However, this was later corrected, and authorities confirmed that the suspect had not been taken into custody.
