A dispute over a parking spot escalated into a fatal shooting, claiming the life of 26-year-old Edith Rivas in Phoenix, Arizona. The incident unfolded on the evening of December 14, 2023, at an apartment complex located near 13th Avenue and Mohave Street. Phoenix police responded to reports of a shooting at approximately 9 p.m. and discovered Rivas suffering from a gunshot wound.
She was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, where she ultimately succumbed to her injuries.
The investigation quickly identified 34-year-old Gary Parchinog as the suspect. According to reports, the conflict began when Parchinog became upset that Rivas had parked her car in a way that blocked his vehicle. An argument ensued, during which Parchinog allegedly pulled out a handgun and shot Rivas in the shoulder. Witnesses stated that he then attempted to fire a second handgun, but the weapon jammed. As Rivas urged her friend to call the police, Parchinog fled the scene.
Following the initial confrontation, Parchinog returned to the apartment, kicked in the door, and fatally shot Rivas in the chest. He then fled the apartment complex before authorities arrived. Phoenix police detectives were able to locate and arrest Parchinog shortly after the incident. He was subsequently booked on charges in connection with the murder of Edith Rivas.
