On the night of March 25, 2024, a dispute in the parking lot of a gas station on South Alvernon Way in Tucson, Arizona, ended in the death of 23-year-old Isaiah Brewster. The incident unfolded shortly before 9:45 p.m. when officers were called to the scene for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered Mr. Brewster unresponsive with gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving efforts by the Tucson Fire Department, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A 28-year-old woman was also found with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to her lower extremities and was transported to a local hospital.
Detectives with the Homicide Unit determined that prior to the shooting, Isaiah Brewster, a male, had been involved in a verbal altercation with a couple near the gas pumps. During the argument, Mr. Brewster drew a firearm and shot the female member of the couple. Patrons at the gas station alerted an armed security guard who was on duty at the business.
The security guard exited the gas station and witnessed the argument and the subsequent shooting. In response, the security guard fired his weapon, striking Mr. Brewster. Following an investigation that included witness interviews and an examination of forensic evidence, no charges were filed against the security guard. The Tucson Police Department indicated that their findings would be presented to the Pima County Attorney's Office for further review.
