In the late evening of August 27, 2024, a dispute at a gas station in Midtown Tucson escalated into a fatal encounter for Ryan Edward Brean. The 43-year-old White / Caucasian male was found by police behind the business at 5151 E. Speedway Blvd. just after 8:10 p.m., suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite the immediate life-saving efforts of the responding officers and medics from the Tucson Fire Department, Brean was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Investigators from the Homicide Unit
soon learned that Brean had been involved in an altercation with another man prior to the shooting. This confrontation intensified, culminating in an exchange of gunfire between the two. Shortly after the initial incident, a 34-year-old male arrived at a local hospital with gunshot trauma. Detectives were able to connect this individual to the shooting at the gas station.
The second man was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and was subsequently released from the hospital. After conducting interviews and analyzing forensic evidence, authorities determined that both men had fired weapons. As the investigation continued, no charges were immediately filed against the surviving individual. The case is set to be presented to the Pima County Attorney's Office for review. Authorities have asked that anyone with additional information come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.
