In a tragic turn of events on August 24, 2015, Robert Lane, a 25-year-old Caucasian male, was fatally shot in Omaha, Nebraska. The incident unfolded following a dispute involving Lane's girlfriend, who was a coworker of the man who would ultimately be responsible for his death.
On that fateful day, Lane's girlfriend reportedly called her coworker, Carl Heng, to her apartment due to an argument she was having with Lane. An exchange of words ensued between the two men.
The confrontation escalated, and as Lane went to open the apartment door, Heng shot him twice. Emergency services transported Lane to a local hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries.
Following the shooting, Carl Heng was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and the use of a weapon to commit a felony. During the legal proceedings, Heng claimed that he acted in self-defense. However, a jury rejected his claims.
In August of 2016, a verdict was reached in the case. Carl Heng was found guilty of the lesser charge of manslaughter, as well as the charge of using a firearm to commit a felony in connection with the death of Robert Lane.
