Victor Beatty, 52, a Black male, was shot late on the night of April 16, 2016, outside the ZAC Riders Motorcycle Club near 24th and Franklin Streets in northeast Omaha. Police were called at 10:51 p.m. and found Beatty and another man, 47-year-old Allen McReynolds, in the street. Both were rushed to CHI Creighton University Medical Center; Beatty was initially listed in critical condition and later died at the hospital.
A neighborhood vigil and prayer walk followed, where loved ones remembered him as compassionate and generous, and his family shared that he was a decorated U.S. Air Force veteran who had served more than two decades.
Investigators quickly identified the scene outside the motorcycle club as the focus of the case, but early on had no suspect description or clear motive. Days later, Omaha police announced arrest warrants tied to the double homicide. The warrants named Phillip K. Osby, 36, on counts of second-degree murder, use of a weapon to commit a felony, and possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person, and Zabrina Dunn-Osby, 39, on a charge of making a terroristic threat. A third person, Lee Turner, 41, was wanted as an accessory to a felony and was booked into Douglas County Corrections.
On May 6, 2016, Osby and Dunn-Osby were arrested in Columbia, Missouri, after a traffic stop on I-70 near the West Boulevard exit. Authorities reported that both were held without bond at the Boone County Jail pending extradition to Nebraska. News accounts at the time reiterated that the men had been shot near the motorcycle club and that the arrests followed the Omaha warrants issued in connection with the killings.
