Death by Force

Virgil Jr. Beard, a 63-year-old Black man, was shot in Omaha on the afternoon of July 15, 2015, near North 26th and Parker Streets. Officers were called around 4:30 p.m.; investigators later said the gunfire erupted in the backyard of a nearby home, and Beard was found in a car with its windows shot out. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and police opened a homicide investigation.
