On that day, Donsbach was found dead in a home in the upscale Regency neighborhood of Omaha. The circumstances of his death were immediately considered a homicide by the Omaha Police Department. Briggs was spotted and, after a carjacking, led police on a high-speed pursuit that exceeded 100 miles per hour. The chase crossed state lines from Omaha into Council Bluffs, Iowa. The pursuit ended near Iowa Western Community College, where a confrontation with law enforcement occurred. In the end, two officers fired their weapons, killing Briggs at the scene. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
