Do you know who murdered Jakela, Latecia and Cameron? Cameron R. Harris, 26, a Black male, was out with family and friends the night a crowded house party near North 34th and Parker Streets in Omaha was cut apart by gunfire. Shortly after 2 a.m. on January 24, 2015, shots from multiple shooters tore through the vacant home packed with as many as 50 people. Two women, 19-year-old JaKela Foster and 24-year-old Latecia Fox, were pronounced dead at the scene; Harris was rushed to the hospital, where he died hours later.
Police described the attack as gang-related and pleaded with witnesses to come forward, but many refused to cooperate.
In the numbed hours that followed, Harris s family stood in the sterile light of the hospital and made impossible choices. His brother told local reporters he had to authorize life support to be withdrawn, and relatives spoke of Harris and Fox as partners whose lives had been intertwined before they were taken in the same burst of violence. Detectives later noted that Harris had survived a separate shooting two months earlier outside a southwest Omaha lounge, a wound he recovered from before the January ambush.
The investigation pressed on across a chaotic scene with five other victims wounded and shell casings marking the path of the shooters. Within weeks, police announced an arrest connected to the party: 21-year-old Trenelle Miller, himself among the wounded, was charged as a prohibited person in possession of a gun. A judge set his bail at $100,000, and a request to reduce it was denied. Those charges, however, did not accuse Miller or anyone else of the murders. Police also reported two disorderly-conduct arrests at a hospital disturbance in the immediate aftermath, but no homicide counts followed.
Months became years, and the case remained open. Omaha s police chief had stood before cameras the day of the killings to urge witnesses to help identify the shooters; later, the department highlighted the triple homicide again as a cold case, with Crime Stoppers posting a reward up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest. Despite those public appeals and the early gun-possession arrest, authorities have not announced murder charges in Harris s killing.
