In the late hours of September 4, 2020, the life of 17-year-old Caucasian male Evan Latto was tragically cut short in a room at a Motel 6 in Omaha, Nebraska. A recent graduate of Gretna High School, Evan was remembered for his love of music, welding, and spending time with his friends. He was known for living life to the fullest and was cherished by those who knew him.
That evening, events took a dark turn inside the motel room.
According to witnesses, 20-year-old Mason Beaverson had been brandishing a handgun earlier in the evening and was told to put it away. Later, Beaverson pulled the gun from his waistband and shot Latto. When police responded to a call about a shooting, they found Evan deceased in the room. Beaverson himself admitted to officers that he was the shooter and that the firearm he used had been stolen.
Shortly after the fatal shooting, Omaha police arrested Mason Beaverson. Initially facing a manslaughter charge, the gravity of the situation led to the charge being upgraded to second-degree murder. Beaverson was held without bail. The investigation also led to the arrest of another individual, 18-year-old Trinity Hendrickson, who was booked on a charge of tampering with evidence in connection with the case.
