Anthony Saunsoci, 30, a Black male, was found shot to death in the early hours of September 15, 2012, after gunfire erupted near North 41st and Ohio Streets in Omaha. Officers arrived just after 2:30 a.m. and pronounced him dead at the scene; two other people, identified by police as Eva Carter, 28, and Antwon Murry, 30, were wounded and taken to Creighton University Medical Center for treatment.
In the immediate aftermath, investigators publicly reported no arrests in connection with the second of two shootings that struck North Omaha within an hour that night, three miles apart.
As weeks turned to months, authorities did not announce suspects or charges in Saunsoci s killing, and publicly available listings have continued to reference the case among unsolved Omaha homicides.
One month after Saunsoci s death, a separate shooting drew a line back to his case: prosecutors alleged that five individuals, talking about avenging Saunsoci s slaying, hunted for a perceived rival and instead killed 16-year-old Montrell Wiseman near 21st and Binney. In that case not Saunsoci s police and prosecutors identified and charged suspects: Angelo Tolbert, 20, and Joshua Vanackeren, 22, with first-degree murder, and Francis Cayou, 38, Matthew Saunsoci, 26, and Brandon Gamble, 24, with conspiracy. Those charges pertained solely to Wiseman s homicide and did not resolve who shot Anthony Saunsoci.
