Lamond Secret, a 26-year-old Black/African American man, was fatally shot on Memorial Day, May 25, 2015, in a brazen daylight attack in Omaha, Nebraska. The incident occurred at a QT Gas Station located at 72nd and Military Avenue, where Secret was simply putting air in his tires. The shooting is believed to have been connected to a series of retaliatory attacks that plagued the city that week.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, the Omaha Police Department launched an
investigation that led to the arrest of a suspect, Michael Goynes, in 2015. However, the path to justice took a significant turn in March 2016 when Goynes was released from custody. The release came after key witnesses were no longer able to definitively identify him as the perpetrator. Prosecutors, faced with this new development, were forced to drop the charges against Goynes, leaving the investigation back at square one. Goynes's family maintained his innocence throughout the proceedings.
The lack of a resolution has left Lamond Secret's family in a state of prolonged grief and uncertainty. His mother, Charmain Riley, and sister, Tangene Secret, have made public pleas for anyone with information to come forward. They have specifically mentioned a female friend who was with Lamond at the gas station at the time of the shooting, believing she may hold crucial information. The family's quest for answers is compounded by the fact that the case remains an active investigation, with both police and prosecutors working to gather the evidence needed for a successful prosecution.
In an effort to generate new leads, a cash reward of $25,000 has been offered for information that leads to the resolution of Lamond Secret's homicide. Known by the nicknames "Chop" and "Mano," he was a former student of Benson High School. As of now, no new suspects have been publicly identified, and the case remains one of Omaha's unsolved homicides.
