On April 24, 1979, Kamal Matthews, a young boy, was found murdered alongside his mother, Deroshia Matthews, in their home at 4264 Binney Street in Omaha, Nebraska. Concerned family members alerted police after not hearing from them, leading to the tragic discovery. Kamal, just seven years old at the time, was a second-grader who loved riding his bike and reading comics. His mother, Deroshia, had been active in the community, working as a crossing guard and teacher’s aide.
