In the early morning hours of August 12, 2018, a Sunday, events unfolded at an Omaha, Nebraska gas station that would end the life of 27-year-old Andrew Peek, a White male. Officers were dispatched to the scene around 6 a.m. following a report of shots being fired. Upon their arrival, they discovered Peek lying between the gas pumps, suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was rushed to the Nebraska Medical Center, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the shooting quickly identified two individuals as persons of interest. Surveillance footage from the gas station reportedly captured the incident, showing one man shooting Peek before both suspects fled the scene in Peek's own vehicle. This crucial piece of evidence set law enforcement on a determined path to locate the men responsible for the fatal carjacking.
Within a week of the shooting, the Omaha Police Department, with the assistance of federal marshals and local police in Iowa, had apprehended two suspects. The first to be taken into custody was 37-year-old Antwan Lovejoy, who was arrested in Omaha. He faced charges of first-degree murder and two weapons counts. Shortly thereafter, the second suspect, 19-year-old Covarrubias Saturnino, was located and arrested in Sioux City, Iowa. He was also sought on suspicion of first-degree murder in connection with Andrew Peek's death and was held in Iowa pending extradition back to Nebraska to face charges.
