Kade Donald Reiman, 23, a White male, set out with a hunting partner on the afternoon of November 13, 2021, in rural Pawnee County, Nebraska, south of Lewiston and near the village of Virginia. A second-grade teacher at Bennet Elementary and a coach in the Palmyra-Bennet district, he was known to friends and students for his energy and care. As daylight thinned toward dusk, the pair pursued deer across broken terrain. In that fading light a shot intended for a fleeing doe struck Reiman, and first responders could not save him; he was pronounced dead at the scene. His death date and location have been consistently reported as November 13, 2021, near Lewiston/Virginia, Nebraska.
Investigators from the Pawnee County Sheriffï s Office reconstructed the sequence and later described it as a ï series of unfortunate events,ï citing dusk conditions, the lay of the land, and timing that placed Reiman in his partnerï s line of fire without being visible. Ballistics testing was conducted using the involved firearm and ammunition at the scene and time of day to mirror conditions. The inquiry concluded the fatal round came from Reimanï s hunting partner as the partner aimed at a deer. Authorities ruled the incident a hunting accident.
