In the early hours of May 25, 2024, a dispute outside a gentleman's club in Lincoln, Nebraska, ended in the tragic death of 40-year-old Terrell Lee Jones, an African American man. The incident, which unfolded around 2:00 a.m. in the parking lot of The Office Gentlemen's Club, also claimed the life of 39-year-old Carlos Silva.
According to Lincoln Police, a verbal altercation escalated, leading to a shooting that left both Jones and Silva with multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency services transported both men to a local hospital, but they succumbed to their injuries. Jones was a father of six and was remembered by his family as a protector who was full of life and jokes. He had recently started a new job at a hotel and was proud of the direction his life was taking.
Investigators quickly launched a homicide investigation, utilizing surveillance footage and witness interviews to identify a suspect. Their efforts led them to 32-year-old Christopher Z. Johnson of Lincoln. On May 28, 2024, authorities tracked Johnson to Omaha and, following a foot chase, took him into custody. Johnson was subsequently charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of using a firearm to commit a felony. He is being held without bond in the Lancaster County Jail, and prosecutors have indicated they may seek the death penalty.
A second man, 32-year-old Darious Fletcher of Lincoln, was also arrested in connection with the double homicide on the same day as Johnson. Fletcher faces charges of being an accessory to first-degree murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm. His bond was set at $2 million. Preliminary court hearings for both men were scheduled for August 21, 2024. The investigation into the deadly shooting is ongoing as the community and the families of the victims await justice.
