On October 17, 1963, Trooper Robert A. Paris, a 28-year-old white male from New Castle County, Delaware, was killed in the line of duty while serving with the Delaware State Police. Paris had joined the force in 1959, fulfilling a lifelong dream of becoming a state trooper. At the time of his death, he was assigned to Troop 2 at State Road and was participating in a special detail aimed at curbing a series of motel burglaries involving stolen televisions.
