Tymir J. Mason, a 28-year-old Black / African American male from Wilmington, Delaware, was killed in the early morning hours of October 2, 2020, in New Castle. The shooting unfolded outside the Casablanca Restaurant on North DuPont Highway, where what began as a late-night gathering in a restaurant parking lot turned into a deadly scene. Delaware State Police were called to the area shortly after 1:00 a.m.
for reports of gunfire, and when troopers arrived, they found Mason suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body.
Mason died at the scene. As investigators worked the parking lot, they learned that a second man, 30-year-old Malik X. Miller of Wilmington, had also been shot in the upper body. Miller was taken from the scene to a nearby hospital in a private vehicle, but he was later pronounced dead. The violence left two Wilmington men dead and turned the Casablanca parking lot into an active homicide scene, with police closing part of North DuPont Highway while evidence was collected and the circumstances were pieced together.
