On a Tuesday evening in Wilmington, Delaware, the life of 21-year-old Cameron Johnson, a Black male, was tragically cut short. On September 14, 2010, at approximately 9:50 p.m., Johnson was near the corner of Elm and South VanBuren Street when he was shot multiple times in the torso. Another individual with him, Jarren Glandton, was also shot in the leg but survived his injuries.
The incident began while Johnson and Glandton were sitting on steps and eating.
They were approached by three men. One of the men snatched money from Johnson's hands. Another of the assailants, identified as Brandon Robinson, who was known to Glandton as "B," then pulled out a handgun. Glandton witnessed Robinson, who was wearing rubber gloves, point the gun at Johnson before Glandton fled, hearing gunshots as he ran.
Based on Glandton's testimony identifying Robinson as the shooter, police sought him in connection with the shooting. Robinson turned himself in to the police the following morning after learning he was wanted for questioning. While in an interrogation room, he was observed by police attempting to swallow a piece of paper that had the cellphone number of Jarren Glandton's mother on it.
Brandon Robinson was arrested and subsequently charged with first-degree murder for the death of Cameron Johnson. Following a jury trial, he was convicted of first-degree murder and a firearm offense. For these crimes, Robinson was sentenced to life in prison.
