On a Wednesday afternoon, September 23, 2015, the life of 28-year-old Jeremy McDole, a Black/African American man who was paralyzed from the waist down, came to a sudden and violent end on a street in Wilmington, Delaware. The events that led to his death began with a 911 call at approximately 3:00 p.m. from a woman reporting that a man in a wheelchair had shot himself and was still in possession of a gun. This call brought Wilmington police officers to the scene, where they found McDole.
